Today, I celebrate Faiqa Bashir the deserving recipient of the Star of Nyaho Medical Centre Award, 2022.
Dr Bashir’s contribution and leadership as a member of the Medical Team were particularly evident in 2021 when Ghana was still dealing with the full force of the pandemic. In the face of the unknown, when the default disposition was precaution and avoidance, Dr Bashir went the extra mile.
She chose compassion and hard work. She refused to take her leave due to the rising emergency cases. She wanted to be part of the solution. For her, every patient was a person first – not a mere statistic – and she demonstrated her commitment to patient-centred care day in and day out. It was, therefore, no surprise that she won the hearts of her patients and their families because of her genuine concern and care.
Over the same period, Dr Bashir showed a remarkable willingness to grow and take on new tasks. She devoted herself wholly to continuous professional development to upskill herself and enthusiastically approached every new assignment. And she did all these whilst being an exceptional team player. Her overall assessment at the end of the year performance management period proved her reliability as a colleague.
The world needs people like Dr Bashir, driven by purpose and passionate about people. People who genuinely care about others and go the extra mile to help them.
So help me honour this fantastic professional and unique human being, the Star of Nyaho and a true healthcare hero, Dr Faiqa Bashir.
